Marlins’ Chen taken deep several times by Reds
Wei-Yin Chen was victimized by a pair of home runs on Friday as he surrendered four runs on five hits over four innings in a loss to the Reds. Chen also walked four while punching out two on the night. All of the damage against him came in the first inning, where Eugenio Suarez clubbed a three-run homer and Adam Duvall followed with a solo shot. He cleaned up his act and kept the Reds off the board the next three innings, but the damage had already been done. He’ll look to get back on track when he takes on the Cubs in Chicago on Wednesday.
Cubs’ Quintana lifted after just four innings in last start
Jose Quintana was charged with three unearned runs over four innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals. A Javier Baez error opened the Cardinals’ three-run second, making all of the runs unearned. Still, Quintana didn’t really deserve to have his ERA drop on a night in which he walked four and threw 88 pitches to get 12 outs. His velocity is up since the beginning of the year, and the results should follow. Still, 16 walks in 30 2/3 innings just isn’t like him at all.
