Red Sox’ Porcello holds Rangers to one run for fifth win
Rick Porcello continued his brilliant start to the season by tossing six innings of one-run ball in a 5-1 victory over the Rangers on Friday. Porcello held the Rangers to just three hits and one walk, with the lone run scoring on a solo homer from Nomar Mazara. He fanned eight in the victory and now sits at 5-0 with a stingy 2.14 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 46/5 K/BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings across seven starts. After taking a step back in 2017, he’s trying to recapture his Cy Young form.
Yankees’ Tanaka sharp in no-decision vs. Astros
Masahiro Tanaka surrendered three runs in six-plus innings Thursday against the Astros. Tanaka pitched scoreless ball for six innings before two singles and a HBP opened the seventh. Chad Green took over and allowed all of the inherited runners to score, so what looked like a very strong outing actually resulted in Tanaka’s ERA increasing. All five hits Tanaka allowed on the day were singles. He struck out five and walked none.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 1-4 in their last five trips to New York while the under is 6-0-2 in Porcello’s last eight starts versus the Yankees.
New York
The under is 5-2 in the last six meetings between these two teams in New York but the over is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams overall.
Prediction:
Last night’s game was low-scoring but I see this one going over the total tonight. The over is a perfect 5-0 in Tanaka’s last five starts, is 5-1 in his last six outings coming off five days of rest, and is 13-3 in his last 16 starts when he pitches the second game of a series. On the other side, the over is 9-4 in the Red Sox’ last 13 games after scoring two runs or less in their previous contest.
The Pick: Red Sox/Yankees over 9
