Giants’ Samardzija strikes out five against Phillies
Jeff Samardzija earned a no decision against the Padres on Monday while allowing two runs over five innings. Samardzija did allow eight baserunners — five hits, three walks — but it’s a nice bounce back after allowing six runs in less than four innings against the Nationals in his last start. Samardzija now owns a 5.27 ERA over his first three appearances, and he’ll get a chance to lower that next Monday when he faces the Phillies.
Phillies’ Eflin solid in last start
Zach Eflin pitched six innings of one-run ball against the Marlins in his season debut for the Phillies on Tuesday. Eflin needed just 72 pitches to get through six, but his spot was due up in the top of the seventh and the Phillies opted to hit for him. Eflin was facing a lineup tonight not much more difficult than the ones he’s taken on in Triple-A. He’s still a poor bet for fantasy value while filling in for Ben Lively.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants have lost five of their last seven games with the Phillies in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia
The over is 7-2 in the last nine meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia and has cashed in four of the last five meetings overall.
Prediction:
I was tempted to fade the Giants yesterday in Atlanta but with the way they were swinging the bats against the Braves, they were worth the gamble as an underdog (they won 4-3). I’m going right back to the well again tonight. The Giants have won four straight, are 5-0 in the first game of a new series, and have won five of their last six games coming off a win. On the other side, the Phillies are 1-9 in Eflin’s last 10 starts, are 0-4 in his last four home outings, and are 0-7 in his last seven starts coming off a team loss in their previous game.
The Pick: San Francisco Giants -101
