San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Buster Posey went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored as the Giants edged the Reds 6-5 on Sunday. Posey and the Giants’ bats were kept silent by Reds starter Luis Castillo through five innings, but they came alive in the sixth. Posey delivered the biggest blow, swatting a three-run, opposite-field homer to knot the score. The homer was the latest in a decent stretch for Posey, who had a nine-game hitting streak snapped Saturday but who has pulled his line up to .257/.315/.426 with the good run. The 32-year-old is showing he’s still got a little life left in that bat.
Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Derek Dietrich homered for the fourth time in the last three games in Sunday’s loss to the Giants. Dietrich was the last of a line of back-to-back-to-back homers by the Reds off Giants starter Jeff Samardzija in the first inning, giving the Reds an early advantage. The homer was nothing new for Dietrich, as he’s blasted one in each of the last three games and has nine in 33 games this year, and he’s hitting .257 with a 1.047 OPS on the year. It’s hard to imagine the 29-year-old had to settle for a minor league contract in February.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 2-8 in their last 10 games at the Great American Ballpark.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 5-2 in their last seven games versus the Giants, with both losses coming over the weekend.
Prediction:
Although they won on Saturday in blowout fashion, this has been a nightmare of a series for the Reds. They blew a 10-3 lead on Friday night and despite hitting back-to-back-to-back home runs in the first inning on Sunday, blew a 4-0 lead on late home runs by Posey and Brandon Crawford. The Giants are not a good offensive team but they love hitting in Cincinnati and their bullpen is somewhat underrated. The Reds, however, have one of baseball’s worst pens and need to do something about closer Raisel Iglesias, who allowed the two-run shot to Crawford on Sunday. Given the Giants’ magic in this series and the fact that they’re getting plus odds, I’ll roll the dice with San Francisco.
The Pick: San Francisco Giants +130
