Cubs’ Lester takes no-decision vs. Rockies
Jon Lester allowed two unearned runs over 5 2/3 innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Rockies. Those two runs came after a misplay by Javier Baez in the top of the fifth inning. Lester scattered five hits and three walks, striking out five, in the eventual 3-2 victory for Chicago. The veteran left-hander will bring a 2-1 record, 2.73 ERA, and 1.24 WHIP into his next start on the road against the rival Cardinals.
Cardinals’ Wacha outstanding in last start
Michael Wacha allowed just two runs but lasted only five innings Tuesday, taking a no-decision in the Cardinals’ 3-2 win over the White Sox. Wacha needed 96 pitches to navigate through his five frames. He walked three batters and gave up five hits, with the big blow being a two-out, two-RBI double by Yoan Moncada in the fourth inning. The right-hander had been trending in the right direction his last couple times out, but this was a small step backward. He gets the Twins at home next.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 4-0 in Lester’s last four starts against the Cardinals and are 12-5 in their last 17 games versus St. Louis overall.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are winless at 0-4 in Wacha’s last four starts versus the Cubs.
Prediction:
The Cardinals are playing much better ball than their division rivals right now but they also suffered some key injuries over the past two days. First and foremost, they placed catcher Yadier Molina on the 10-day disabled list with a pelvic injury with a traumatic hematoma. He had to undergo emergency surgery and is expected to be out at least a month. They’re also down reliever Dominic Leone for a pen that was already struggling and even though Wacha has been great his last two starts, he’ll be tested tonight by the Cubs. Despite their struggles of late, I like Chicago tonight.
The Pick: Chicago Cubs -107
