Astros’ Morton dominates Yankees in victory
Charlie Morton fanned 10 while holding the Yankees to one run in 7 2/3 innings in a victory Monday. Morton allowed just two hits in improving to 4-0 this year. The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Yankees. Morton is throwing well enough to continue posting stellar results. Whether he can stay healthy is the real question, given that we’re talking about a 34-year-old who has never made 30 starts in a season.
Diamondbacks’ strikes out 10 in win over Dodgers
Zack Greinke struck out 10 in six innings of work in a win over the Dodgers on Monday. Greinke allowed just two runs on four hits, and he walked two. He also helped himself in this one with the bat, going 2-for-2 with an RBI single. It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for the right-hander, but this start lowers the ERA to 4.50, and he’s missing plenty of bats as seen in his 42 strikeouts in 36 innings. He’ll look to lower that ERA some more in his next start on Saturday against the Astros.
