Rockies’ Bettis takes tough loss vs. Marlins
Chad Bettis gave up just two runs over seven innings of work in a loss to the Marlins. Bettis allowed just four hits and a walk, and he struck out five. Unfortunately for Colorado and Bettis, Caleb Smith dominated the Rockies. Still, it’s another strong start for the right-hander, who now owns a nifty 2.43 ERA on the season. He’ll look to keep it going next time out against the Mets on Saturday.
Mets’ Matz working through injury
Mets manager Mickey Callaway said Steven Matz (back) still feels “tender.”
Matz won’t be available out of the Mets’ bullpen on Tuesday night against the Braves, which would have been a possibility had he been close to 100 percent. Noah Syndergaard is starting in his place Tuesday night against the Braves, but Matz should be fine to rejoin the rotation this weekend against the Rockies.
