Pirates’ Kingham coming off impressive debut vs. Cardinals
Nick Kingham carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before allowing a two-out hit, and he finished with seven scoreless innings in his MLB debut Sunday in a 5-0 win over the Cardinals.
Hard to do much better in your debut than coming within seven outs of a perfect game, which is what Kingham did before Paul DeJong hit a two-out single in the seventh inning. Kingham stuck around to get the last out of the seventh before calling it a day, finishing with nine strikeouts in the stellar debut.
Brewers’ Guerra allows just one run in tough luck loss
Junior Guerra allowed just one run in six innings but that was all it took to get stuck with the loss against the Cubs on Saturday. He surrendered an RBI-double to Javier Baez in the third inning, one of only three hits Guerra yielded in the well-pitched ballgame. He struck out six batters and walked two as he fell to 2-1 on the season.
The 33-year-old right-hander has allowed just two earned runs through four starts and now sports a studly 0.82 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 22 innings of work. He will try to keep rolling on Friday against the Pirates.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 0-7 in their last seven road games and 0-7 in their last seven road games versus a right-handed starter.
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 69-25 in their last 94 home games versus the Pirates and are 4-1 in their last five games versus Milwaukee overall.
Prediction:
Even though the Pirates got their ass kicked by the Nationals in D.C. I like them in this spot. For starters, they’re 4-0 in their last four games versus the rest of the National League Central and are 4-1 in their last five games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 ERA. The Brewers, meanwhile, are 0-5 in their last five games versus a team with a winning record 0-4 in their last four home games coming off a road trip of seven or more days.
The Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates +100
