Dodgers’ Wood suffers another loss vs. Giants
Alex Wood allowed four earned runs, six hits and a walk with four strikeouts over six innings in the second end of a doubleheader on Saturday in San Francisco.
Wood is having the opposite start of his 2017 season. The southpaw was an All-Star last season and he didn’t lose his third decision until Sept. 9. On a positive note, he didn’t pick up his second victory until May 2 last season, so he isn’t far off of his win pace from 2017. He’ll look for that elusive first win next Thursday in Arizona, but it’s a tall order facing the red-hot Patrick Corbin.
Diamondbacks’ Corbin turns in quality start vs. Nationals
Patrick Corbin allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven, in a no-decision Saturday against the Nationals.
Corbin yielded a pair of homers among his seven hits allowed, also walking one in the outing. He left facing the prospect of taking his first loss of the year, but the D’backs rallied late and kept Corbin’s record at a perfect 4-0 through his six starts. And what a six starts they have been, as Corbin now owns a 2.25 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 55/7 K/BB ratio over 40 innings of work. Corbin will try to keep it rolling Thursday against the division-rival Dodgers.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
Before Wednesday, the Dodgers were 1-7 in their last eight games against the Diamondbacks and are 0-5 in their last five games in Arizona.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks have won six of Corbin’s last seven starts and are 16-5 in his last 21 home outings.
Prediction:
The Diamondbacks are 1-5 in Corbin’s last six starts versus the Dodgers and are 1-4 in his last five home outings against Arizona. The Dodgers, meanwhile, are 21-9 in Wood’s last 30 starts and despite the Diamondbacks being one of the hottest teams in baseball, I like the Dodgers to top their National League West rivals.
The Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -110
