Phillies’ Nola pitches seven innings in win over Braves
Aaron Nola notched a win Friday against the Braves after allowing three runs over seven innings. Things didn’t look promising after Nola gave up three runs in the first inning, but he settled down from there while his offense battled back. He struck out four batters in the victory while allowing seven hits and one walk.
Nola has allowed three earned runs or fewer in all six of his starts this season and has completed seven innings in three out of his last four outings. He’ll carry a sterling 2.58 ERA into a juicy matchup against the Marlins next week.
Marlins’ Urena excellent in tough-luck loss
Jose Urena fired seven innings of one-run ball, but was handed a tough-luck loss Friday against the Rockies. Oddly enough, the only damage came on an RBI double from pitcher Antonio Senzatela. While Urena fell to 0-4 on the year, it was an impressive outing.
He held the Rockies to six hits while walking one (intentional) and striking out five. He threw an efficient 98 pitches and delivered first-pitch strikes to 20 out of the 26 batters he faced. Urena owns a 4.91 ERA through six starts this year, two of them very good and four not-so-good. He’ll try for the former next week against the Phillies.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 1-4 in Nola’s last five starts versus the Marlins and are 5-16 in Nola’s last 21 road outings.
Miami
The Marlins are 0-8 in Urena’s last eight starts, are 1-10 in his last 11 outings versus a team with a winning record and are 8-22 in his last 30 home starts.
Prediction:
The Marlins have won four straight games, are 4-0 in their last home games and are 4-1 in their last five games coming off a win. They’re also 5-0 in their last five games after allowing two runs or less in their previous game and are 5-0 in their last five games when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous game. I’ll take the hotter team getting the plus odds.
The Pick: Miami Marlins +145
