Cubs prevail in 15 innings

Chicago claimed a 6-5 victory in 15 innings Sunday evening at Arizona, scoring three times in the top of the 15th to break a 3-3 tie before holding off a rally attempt by the hosts. Tyler Chatwood picked up the win in relief as he struck out two and walked one in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Allen Webster retired the only batter he faced for his first save of the season. Ben Zobrist helped pace the Cubs offense off the bench as he went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a run and two RBIs. Kris Bryant finished 1-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs. Willson Contreras ended the contest 1-for-6 with a solo home run. Cole Hamels draws tonight's start and comes in with a 3-0 record, 3.16 ERA, 0.99 WHIP plus 30 strikeouts over 31 1/3 innings.

Mariners pounded for second straight day

Seattle lost 14-1 Sunday afternoon at home versus Texas, one day after getting smoked to the tune of 15-1. The Mariners cut their deficit to 5-1 with their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but proceeded to give up nine unanswered runs the rest of the way. Dee Gordon helped pace the Seattle lineup by going 2-for-4 from the top of the order. Dan Vogelbach finished 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Tim Beckham was 1-for-4 with a double and a run, while Ryon Healy went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Erik Swanson suffered the loss as he surrendered nine runs (six earned) on 11 hits over four innings, striking out two and walking none. Felix Hernandez will start tonight for the M's and comes in with a 1-2 record, 3.91 ERA, 1.22 WHIP plus 21 strikeouts over 25 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

The Cubs are 5-0 in their last five road games versus a right-handed starter. Chicago is 9-3 in its last 12 games overall.

The Mariners are 1-4 in their last five interleague home games. Seattle is 1-6 in its last seven games following an off day.

Chicago has the better starting pitcher going, but King Felix has managed to at least keep his team in the game for the most part in his regular season starts to date. The Cubs might have had an off day yesterday, but with travel they might still not be fully recovered from the fatigue that a 15-inning game will bring. Seattle has had a nice start to the season and will want to wipe out the previous two games' bad memories with a strong performance here.
