Rangers’ Hamels falls to 1-4 to start the season
Cole Hamels dropped to 1-4 after allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday against the A’s. Hamels allowed two runs or fewer for the third time in six starts. His stuff has degraded, so at this point, two runs for six innings is about the best anyone should hope for when he starts. He can keep his team in games, but with such a mediocre team around him, it’s not going to get him many wins.
Indians’ Bauer strikes out eight, allows one run vs. Cubs
Trevor Bauer struck out eight batters and allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings to beat the Cubs 4-1 on Wednesday. It was a strong outing against a very good lineup. Bauer scattered just four singles and three walks in the contest and improved his record to 2-2 after five starts. He has a marvelous 2.41 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 35 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings. Bauer will face off against Cole Hamels and the Rangers on Monday.
