Rockies’ Freeland coming off excellent home start
Kyle Freeland allowed just three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over seven scoreless innings for his first win of the season Tuesday against the Padres. Freeland threw 57 of his 90 pitches for strikes in the quality start, just his second of the season in five outings.
While he has yielded at least two walks in each of his five outings, he has started to work down his homer totals. After serving up four bombs in his first two starts over 11 1/3 innings, Freeland has allowed just one homer across the past 15 2/3 innings over his past three outings. Next up is a visit to Wrigley Field and a matchup with Jon Lester on Monday to kick off a two-start week.
Cubs’ Lester allows just three runs in seven innings vs. Tribe
Jon Lester surrendered three runs in seven innings and was charged with a loss to the Indians on Wednesday. All three runs came on solo homers — Brandon Guyer, Francisco Lindor and Edwin Encarnacion all took him deep. Lester allowed four hits total plus two walks while fanning four in the outing. He falls to 2-1 with a 3.29 ERA after five starts. He had allowed just one homer this year prior to today.
