Rays’ Chirinos strikes out six in start vs. Twins
Yonny Chirinos struck out six over 4 2/3 innings of work while allowing two runs in his start on Sunday against the Twins. Chirinos did allow four hits and two walks, but he was able to limit the damage to just the two runs against the Minnesota lineup.
The 24-year-old rookie has pitched relatively well in his first month of big-league action, and he offers some fantasy appeal in AL-only leagues. You’ll likely want a different starter in your lineup on Saturday when he’s pitching in Boston against the Red Sox.
Red Sox’ Price falters late in loss vs. A’s
David Price pitched well for seven innings but stumbled in the eighth, allowing nine hits and four runs over 7 2/3 innings in a loss to the A’s on Sunday. Price largely cruised through seven but ran into trouble in the eighth when the A’s picked up back-to-back one-out singles. He retired the red-hot Jed Lowrie for the second out but couldn’t get past Khris Davis, whose three-run homer closed the book on Price and saddled him with his second loss.
Even with the poor ending, Price now has a 2.93 ERA through five starts and seems to be past the elbow issue that plagued him last year. Price will next take on his former Rays club Saturday in Boston
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 1-6 in their last seven meetings with the Red Sox overall and are 2-5 in their last seven games in Boston.
Boston
The Red Sox have won four of Price’s last five starts versus the Rays.
Prediction:
The Rays have won seven in a row but their streak should end today. The Red Sox are 8-2 in their last 10 home games, are 36-17 in their last 53 games overall, and are 8-3 in Price’s last 11 home outings. With Price facing his former team, I like the BoSox on the runline.
The Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5
