Dodgers’ Wood turns in quality start in no-decision
Alex Wood logged a quality start in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over his six frames. The left-hander punched out four while walking one in the ballgame. He served up a solo homer to Michael Taylor in the fourth inning, then the Nats scratched out runs with sacrifice flies in each the second and sixth innings. Wood now sports a 3.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 26/2 K/BB ratio through his first 29 innings on the season. His next outing will come on Saturday against the Giants in San Francisco.
Giants’ Cueto coming off excellent outing in win over Angels
Johnny Cueto tossed six scoreless innings Sunday, striking out seven in a win over the Angels. As he’s been all year, Cueto was brilliant in this one, walking two while giving p just two singles in his six innings of work. In four starts overall, the right-hander has allowed just one run — total — across 26 innings. That works out to a 0.35 ERA, with a 0.65 WHIP and 23/4 K/BB ratio to boot. His blister issues seemingly behind him, Cueto will look to keep rolling Saturday when he faces the division-rival Dodgers.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 21-8 in Wood’s last 29 starts and are 9-4 in their last 13 outings versus the rest of the National League West.
San Francisco
The Giants are 6-1 in Cueto’s last seven starts and are 5-1 in his last six outings coming off a quality start in his last appearance.
Prediction:
I took the under on Friday night (it did not hit), I took the under in Game 1 of this series (as of this writing the game has not been played yet), and I’m going to take the under in Game 2. This is the best pitching matchup of the weekend in San Francisco and these two teams have had their issues offensively. The under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and I wouldn’t be shocked if one of these teams gets shut out tonight.
The Pick: Dodgers/Giants Game 2 under 7
