Oakland A’s Fantasy Spin
Chad Pinder delivered a walk-off single Wednesday in the Athletics’ 6-5 victory over Texas. It was a day of peaks and valleys for Pinder, who, in addition to his game-winning hit, also struck out twice and killed a first-inning rally by grounding into a fielder’s choice. Pinder’s star turn came in the bottom of the ninth when he stroked a two-out single to right field off Chris Martin, plating Stephen Piscotty from second base. That marked the first walk-off hit of Pinder’s four-year career. The outfielder had a marvelous series, earning six hits in 14 at-bats while boosting his season average from .295 to .320.
Toronto Blue Jays Fantasy Spin
Teoscar Hernandez contributed one of the Blue Jays’ two hits Wednesday in a loss to San Francisco. Hernandez collected a one-out base hit—Toronto’s first of the day—in the fifth but got greedy trying to stretch a single into a double and was gunned down at second base. He grounded out and struck out in his other two plate appearances. The Blue Jays were nearly no-hit by Jordan Zimmerman and Trevor Bauer earlier this year and didn’t have their first base-runner until the fifth inning Wednesday against Drew Pomeranz. Luckily help is on the way with top prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. set to debut Friday night against Oakland
