Red Sox’ Sale coming off 10-K performance vs. A’s
Chris Sale allowed three earned runs, six hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts over seven innings in a loss at Oakland on Saturday. Sale suffered his first loss of the season, but he turned in a quality start and his counterpart, Sean Manaea, tossed a no-hitter.
The 10 strikeouts were also a season best for Sale. He has allowed just 22 hits with two homers and six walks while striking out 41 batters over 29 innings through five outings. The wins might not be flowing right now, but they’re coming. He’ll look to get back into the win column on Friday in his next scheduled start against the visiting Rays.
Blue Jays’ Estrda not sharp but picks up victory
Marco Estrada was credited with a win despite allowing five runs in five innings against the Yankees on Friday. All five runs came via the longball — a two-run shot by Tyler Austin, a two-run shot by Giancarlo Stanton and a solo bomb by Miguel Andujar.
Home runs have been Estrada’s weakness throughout his career and that doesn’t look to be change this year. He’s already allowed six dingers in his first four starts. He moves to 2-1 with a 5.32 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.
