Diamondbacks' Greinke rebounds vs. Giants
Zack Greinke was on his game in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Giants, firing off seven innings of three-hit, one-run ball. Greinke wasn't able to do much in terms of the strikeouts -- he finished with just two whiffs on the evening -- but it was a beautiful performance regardless.
The veteran ace finished up his evening having thrown just 88 pitches (56 strikes). He kept the scoreboard free and clear of danger outside of a solo home run surrendered to Brandon Belt in the second inning. Beyond the Belt dinger, Gregor Polanco picked up a single and Andrew McCutchen collected a double. And that was it in terms of the hit-damage on Greinke's line.
It was a fine rebound showing after he had surrendered a combined nine runs on 14 hits over his previous two outings. Moving forward, Greinke will carry a 4.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 23/2 K/BB ratio (24 innings) into a road showdown with the Phillies next time he takes to the rubber.
Phillies' Arrieta off to great start with new team
Jake Arrieta struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings as the Phillies shut out the Pirates 7-0 on Thursday. Arrieta was nothing short of dominant, allowing just one hit while walking two in his seven innings of work.
He had it all working -- breaking pitches, fastball, location. It was easily his best start of the year to date, improving his record to 2-1 with a strong 2.04 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 16/6 K/BB ratio in 17 2/3 innings. A meeting with the Diamondbacks is on tap for Arrieta and the Phils on Wednesday.
MLB Betting Trends
The Diamondbacks are 22-10 in Greinke's last 32 starts and are 16-5 in his last 21 outings coming off five days of rest.
The Phillies are a perfect 5-0 in their last five games when playing the second game of a series.
Greinke has an elite strikeout rate and has held both left and right-handed batters in check. The Phillies have an underrated offense but Greinke is a beast. On the other side is Arrieta, whose velocity is down and his swinging strike rate is low to start the season (albeit in a small sample size). At +105, I'll take a shot on the underdog D-Backs with Greinke on the mound. Arrieta might be due for his first bad outing in a Phillies' uniform.
The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks +105
