Philadelphia Phillies Fantasy Spin
Zach Eflin gave up four runs — three earned — on four hits over four innings of work Tuesday in a loss to the Mets. Economy wasn’t Eflin’s middle name in this one, as he needed 72 pitches to get through four innings and was pinch-hit for in the top of the fifth. Fantasy players relying on Eflin should be thankful that Phils manager Gabe Kapler had a quick hook or the final numbers could have looked worse for the right-hander. As it is, Eflin is now 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through five starts. Fortunately for the 25-year-old, a date with the Marlins on Sunday could bear some more attractive fruit.
New York Mets Fantasy Spin
Robinson Canó (hand) went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday’s win over the Phillies. Canó was in the lineup and productive two days after being hit in the right hand with a pitch Sunday, so we can probably stop saying (hand) after his name at this point. The 36-year-old hasn’t come out firing in his first few weeks with his new club, batting .247/.295/.416 with three homers in 22 games, but there’s still plenty of time for his bat to come around. We’re confident it will.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 0-5 in Vincent Velasquez’s last five starts versus the Mets.
New York
The Mets have won five of Jason Vargas’ last six starts.
Prediction:
Vargas pitched relatively well in St. Louis in his last start but he owns a walk rate that is higher than his strikeout rate and is allowing a 70% hard contact rate this season. The Phillies’ lineup has struggled over their last three games, scoring just two runs combined over that span. That said, if they’re going to have an eruption, I’m banking on it coming tonight in New York.
The Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -136
