Ramirez set to make season debut for Mariners
Erasmo Ramirez (lat) will make his 2018 debut on Sunday against the Rangers.
Ramirez has missed all of the 2018 season after straining his lat in February. He's made three rehab starts, and the Mariners feel comfortable putting him in the rotation against the Rangers on Sunday. The 27-year-old pitched reasonably well for Seattle last year, registering a 3.92 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 62 innings in his second stint with the Mariners.
Rangers' Perez hammered by Rays
Martin Perez was torched for eight runs -- seven earned -- in four innings by the Rays on Monday. Perez allowed five runs in the first two innings, so the Rangers could have turned to the pen, particularly after the surprisingly lengthy start by Bartolo Colon on Sunday.
Instead, they kept the left-hander in and sacrificed what chance they had of winning the game. Perez has a 13.14 ERA after three starts. His rotation spot should be safe for the long haul, but the Rangers might want to have him skip a turn in an effort to figure out what's wrong.
MLB Betting Trends
Mariners are 5-0 in their last five games in Texas.
The Rangers are 5-2 in Perez's last seven home starts against the Mariners.
I don't care how successful the Rangers have been with Perez on the mound versus the Mariners - Seattle is too good to pass up given how bad Perez is. The Rangers have lost seven of his last nine starts coming off five days of rest and are 1-4 in his last five starts on Sunday. The Mariners, meanwhile, are 4-0 in their last four road games and have won five of their last six games versus a left-handed starter.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners -120
