Cubs’ Quintana roughed up again
Jose Quintana was mauled for seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings but somehow avoided a loss against the Braves on Saturday.
The Braves jumped on him early and often, with Ozzie Albies leading off the game with a dinger. Quintana struggled to find the strike zone and when he did the Braves teed off on it. He issued four free passes, allowed seven base hits and notched only one strikeout as he watched his ERA balloon from 4.50 to 8.16 after three starts.
His team trailed 7-1 when he was knocked from the game, but they came back to win in the late innings.
Rockies’ Marquez coming off positive start vs. Pirates
German Marquez held the Pirates to two earned runs over six innings Monday for his first win of the season. Colin Moran drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth and Starling Marte plated another on an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth, but Marquez was otherwise sharp on a very cold night at PNC Park.
He allowed just two total hits and two walks while striking out six. The 23-year-old right-hander will carry a 1-1 record and 4.34 ERA into his next start at home against the Cubs.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are just 9-19 in their last 28 games in Colorado and are 2-5 in their last seven games versus the Rockies.
Colorado
The Rockies are 2-5 in Marquez’s last seven starts on Sunday but have won 10 of his last 13 home outings.
Prediction:
Despite this being Coors Field and despite Quintana’s struggles, I see this game falling under the total. The under is 5-0-1 in Quintana’s last six road starts, is 3-0-1 in his last four outings versus the National League West, and is 3-0-1 in his last four road outings when facing a team with a winning record. On the other side, the under is 7-1 in Marquez’s last eight home starts and is 12-2 in his last 14 outings when pitching the third game of a series.
The Pick: Cubs/Rockies under 10.5
