Mets’ deGrom off to nice start in 2018
Jacob deGrom yielded three earned runs over 7 1/3 innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Nationals. He struck out 12 and issued just one walk, but Bryce Harper popped deGrom for a solo shot in the top of the first inning and the right-hander allowed a couple of singles before exiting in the top of the eighth — what became a six-run frame for Washington.
The loss went to A.J. Ramos, with deGrom remaining 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 30/6 K/BB ratio in 25 total frames this season.
Braves’ Teheran coming off positive outing vs. Phillies
Julio Teheran pitched six innings of one-run ball against the Phillies to pick up his first win of the year on Monday. Teheran has turned in back-to-back quality starts after giving up nine runs over eight innings in his first two outings.
He struck out five and allowed four homers in his first two starts, which were at home against the Phillies and Nationals. He’s faced the same two opponents in his last two starts and struck out nine and allowed one homer.
Dating back to last year, he seems spooked by SunTrust Park, which definitely favors left-handed power hitters. But this outing in Atlanta certainly gave off some positive vibes.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 4-0 in deGrom’s last four road starts against the Braves.
Atlanta
The Braves are just 1-4 in Teheran’s last five home outings versus the Mets.
Prediction:
The Braves won’t be able to muster much offense versus deGrom but the question is whether or not Teheran can keep the Mets’ offense in check. I believe he will. The under is 10-3-1 in Teheran’s last 14 home starts, is 16-5-1 in his last 22 outings overall, and is 8-2 in his last 10 starts against the rest of the National League East. With the total sitting at 8 for this game, I’m looking for a 4-3 final.
The Pick: Mets/Braves under 8
