Nationals’ Roark off to a nice start in 2018
Tanner Roark gave up two runs — one earned — over six innings in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.
Carlos Gonzalez got to him for a solo homer in the fourth before adding a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Otherwise, Roark kept the Rockies off the board. He gave up just three hits on the night while walking one and striking out three. He’ll bring a 3.50 ERA into an NL East showdown against the Mets next week
Mets’ Matz victimized by long ball in last start
Steven Matz gave up four runs — three earned — over 5 1/3 innings in a win over the Brewers on Friday.
The home run ball was his main culprit. Matz held the Brewers scoreless before giving up a two-run homer to Hernan Perez in the fourth. Ryan Braun later connected for a two-run shot of his own in the sixth. Still, a win is a win. Matz struck out five and walked a pair, and now owns a 3.77 ERA through his first three starts.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are now 50-16 in their last 66 road games versus the Mets. They’re 2-0 in this current series.
New York
The Mets are 10-4 in their last 13 games overall and have won nine of their last 14 home games despite losing back-to-back home contests.
Prediction:
I’m not going to back Matz here, especially with Roark on the mound for a Nationals team that isn’t overly expensive. New York is 3-9 in Matz’s last 12 starts, is 3-9 in its last 12 home outings and has dropped 12 of his last 14 starts after allowing five runs or more in its previous game. On the other side, the Nationals have won five of Roark’s last six road starts versus a team with a winning record.
The Pick: Washington Nationals -116
