Tigers end losing skid
The Detroit Tigers put an end to their five-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 4-2 victory at home after being off for five days. The win propels them to 5-9 overall and 2-5 at home. Detroit is now averaging 3.79 runs per game while allowing 4.29 per contest.
Matthew Boyd will make his third start of the season today. He is 0-1 despite having two very good starts. Over 13 innings of work, Boyd has allowed just two earned runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. His WHIP is 0.69 while his ERA is 1.38.
Orioles struggling at the plate
Baltimore has dropped five straight and six of its last seven games following Tuesday’s loss to the Tigers. They have been held to three runs or less in all six losses. Baltimore is now averaging 3.12 runs per game while allowing 5.29 per contest. When it comes to records, the Orioles are 5-12 overall and 3-8 on the road.
Kevin Gausman gets the start today. He is making his fourth start and his first three have not gone terribly well. Gausman has a 1-1 record despite allowing 11 earned runs over 15 innings with six walks and 15 strikeouts. He has a 6.60 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
Baltimore has lost six of its last seven games against AL Central opponents and Gausman’s last six starts against AL Central opposition. They also are 1-4 in their last five when Gausman has started on six days of rest.
Detroit
The Tigers are just 1-11 in Boyd’s last 12 starts and 1-6 in his last seven starts at home. Detroit is last just 16-35 in its last 51 home games.
Prediction:
The Tigers were able to grind out a win on Tuesday and I think they can do the same today. Boyd hasn’t gotten great run support in his starts yet, but has pitched well enough to win. The Orioles send a struggling Gausman to the mound and they aren’t hitting at all to find ways to win. I think Detroit being the underdog at home against this Baltimore team is worth jumping on.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers +105
