Garcia coming off impressive no-decision vs. Mets
Jarlin Garcia rattled off six shutout innings without allowing any base hits against the Mets but had to settle for a no-decision in a game his team eventually lost on Wednesday.
Garcia has been opening some eyes with his performance this year and this performance was a prime example. He was relieved after firing six innings of no-hit baseball despite throwing only 77 pitches. He struck out three batters and issued two walks in the sterling outing.
On the season he has allowed just two runs in 16 innings. This was his first start after making two long relief appearances. The 25-year-old left-hander has a 1.13 ERA with 11 strikeouts and six walks in 16 innings.
Tanaka earns win vs. Yankees but roughed up by Red Sox
Masahiro Tanaka coughed up six runs in five innings but still came away with a win against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
He allowed a solo homer to Hanley Ramirez in the first inning but was rolling along until serving up five runs in the fifth frame, which featured a grand slam off the bat of J.D. Martinez. Tanaka struck out three, walked two and yielded seven knocks by the time the dust settled. He moves to 2-1 with a 5.19 ERA in three starts.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins have dropped five of their last six games in the Bronx.
New York
The Yankees are 13-3 in their last 16 games versus National League East competition.
Prediction:
Even though the Yankees scored 12 runs last night I see this game being tighter and lower-scoring tonight. The under is 4-0 in Tanaka’s last four home starts, is 6-1 in his last seven outings overall, and is 8-3 in his last 11 interleague starts. He’ll hold this Miami lineup in check while Garcia should fare much better against the Yankees’ powerful lineup than his teammate Caleb Smith, who was a disaster from the first inning last night. I’m not being sucked into the fact that this total is only 8.5 after these two teams combined for 13 runs last night (the Yankees, of course, did most of the heavy lifting).
The Pick: Marlins/Yankees under 8.5
