Red Sox’ Price will make scheduled start vs. Angels
David Price (hand) will start Tuesday against the Angels. Price was pulled from Wednesday’s start after feeling numbness in his hand but resumed throwing on Thursday and never needed an MRI.
He’ll get an extra day of rest with Brian Johnson filling in against Baltimore on Patriot’s Day. Even after Wednesday’s shellacking, Price still sports an excellent 2.40 ERA for the year.
Ohtani coming off dominate performance vs. A’s
Shohei Ohtani struck out 12 over seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, in a 6-1 win over the Athletics on Sunday.
Ohtani carried a perfect game into the seventh inning, but a one-out single by Marcus Semien broke up both the potential perfect game and no-hitter. He’ll just have to settle for turning in arguably the most impressive pitching performance to date this year, and an incredibly efficient one — even with the 12 punchouts, he needed just 91 pitches to do it. Ohtani is now 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA, 0.46 WHIP and 18/2 K/BB ratio through two starts. Oh, and he’s also got three homers as a hitter. Not bad.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are just 1-4 in their last five games against the Angels and are 3-8 in their last 11 road games versus L.A.
Los Angeles
The Angels have won four of their last five home games and are 14-3 in their last 17 games overall.
Prediction:
This one is tricky because of Price’s hand but if he’s okay, I love the under in what should be a pitcher’s duel. It’s early, but Ohtani owns a 2.08 ERA with a 40.0% strikeout rate, a 4.4% walk rate and a 20.0% hard contact rate.
On the other side, Price’s ERA is a 3.21 ERA with a 23.2% strikeout rate and a 7.7% walk rate. The bottom line: Both of these pitchers strike a lot of batters out and limit walks. That means fewer base runners and limited runs.
The under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles and has cashed in seven of the last 10 meetings overall. I wish the total was higher than 7.5, but I’ll take the under nevertheless.
The Pick: Red Sox/Angels under 7.5
