Dodgers’ Ryu coming off quality start vs. A’s
Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed just one hit with one walk over six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a win Tuesday against the Athletics. The A’s had no answers for the southpaw, as he allowed just a walk to Matt Chapman in the top of the first inning and a base hit to Stephen Piscotty in the top of the fifth frame. Ryu threw 60 of his 90 pitches for strikes for a quality start after subpar results in Arizona in his initial outing of the season on April 2.
Erlin getting chance to start for Padres
Andy Green confirmed Sunday that Robbie Erlin will start on Monday against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old has pitched well out of the bullpen in five appearances this season, compiling a 2.38 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 9/2 K/BB ratio. Still, he has more value to the team as a starter if he can succeed there, so he’ll get every opportunity to start until he proves he can’t do it
Quotable: “Robbie proved in spring training that he’s ready to pitch again in the major leagues,” Padres manager Andy Green said. “The one thing we couldn’t do is get him stretched out. But he has made three longer relief appearances.”

I’ll roll the dice on the Padres getting plus odds tonight. The Dodgers are 1-6 in Ryu’s last seven starts, are 0-4 in his last four road outings, and are 0-5 in his last five starts versus National League West opponents. The Padres, meanwhile, are 5-2 in their last seven games and are feeling confident following a successful series versus the Giants.
