Astros in a slump?
Houston dropped two of three at home to the Texas Rangers this weekend and they have now lost four of their last five games. The Astros have fallen to 10-6 on the season and 4-3 on the road. Houston is now averaging 4.19 runs per game while allowing 3.06 per contest.
Dallas Keuchel is getting the start for the Astros tonight. He is 0-2 through three starts as he hasn’t been the usual ace the Astros have known. Through 15 innings of work, Keuchel has allowed seven earned runs with nine walks and 13 strikeouts. He has a 1.80 WHIP and a 4.20 ERA.
Seattle a NL West contender?
The Mariners are coming off a loss at home to the Athletics on Sunday, but they had won four straight prior to that and have started the season 8-5 overall and 4-2 at home. Seattle is putting up 4.77 runs per game while also allowing 4.77 per contest.
James Paxton is making his fourth start of the season tonight. Through three starts he is 0-1 with a 5.74 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. He has given up 10 earned runs over 15.2 innings with six walks and 21 strikeouts. He allowed six runs to Cleveland in his first start, but has allowed just two runs in each of his last two starts.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros have won four of their last five road games against a left-handed starter and six of Keuchel’s last eight Monday starts. However, they have lost Keuchel’s last four road starts.
Seattle
The Mariners are 7-2 in Paxton’s last nine starts when he has four days of rest. They are also 6-2 in his last eight starts against a winning team. Seattle has managed to win four of its last five games following a loss.
Prediction:
You’d think Houston would be quick to get back on track, but the hitting isn’t quite coming through as of late and Keuchel hasn’t been terribly good on the mound. He is allowing nearly two baserunners per inning. I like what Paxton has been able to do in his last two starts and I think he can lead Seattle to a home win.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners +100
