Houston in a skid?
The Astros suffered a 6-5 loss to the Rangers in 10 innings on Saturday for their third loss in four games. The loss dropped Houston to 10-5 on the season and 6-2 at home. They now are averaging 4.40 runs per game at the plate and allowing 3.07 runs per game.
Justin Verlander makes his fourth start for the Astros this season and he is 2-0 on the mound. Houston has won all three of his starts. Verlander has allowed three earned runs over 18.2 innings with 23 strikeouts and four walks.
Rangers end losing streak
Texas put an end to a five-game losing streak with Saturday’s win. The Rangers are now just 5-11 on the season with a 3-3 mark on the road. They have yet to win back-to-back games this season. Texas is scoring only 3.25 runs per game thus far in 2018 while allowing 5.31 runs per game.
Bartolo Colon gets the start today. He is making just his second start of the season despite appearing in a total of three games. Colon has pitched in 11 innings and allowed just two earned runs with one walk and 10 strikeouts. He has a 1.00 WHIP and a 1.64 ERA.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers have lost their last six games following a win and are 1-4 in their last five against division opponents. They also are just 3-13 in their last 16 Sunday games.
Houston
Houston has won Verlander’s last six starts at home and the Astros are 12-1 in his last 13 on the mound. They have also won 37 of their last 55 a home.
Prediction:
On paper it certainly seems like the Astros should win, but I can’t take them with such long odds and I don’t feel great about the run line after losing yesterday. Colon has actually pitched well and Houston isn’t lighting the world on fire at the plate. Given the long odds with a respectable pitching matchup, I will take the Rangers in an upset.
The Pick: Texas Rangers +290
