Taillon spectacular as new ace for Pirates
Jameson Taillon is off to an incredible start as the new ace for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was sensational in his last start, throwing a complete game, one-hit shutout in a 5-0 Pirates’ victory over the Reds. In that game, Taillon struck out seven and walked just one. It’s now back-to-back incredible outings for the 26-year-old.
Quotable: “He was sharp. He was focused. He was committed,” said Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, who was not tempted to pull Taillon at any point despite the fact that no Pittsburgh starter had lasted beyond six innings. “I just wanted to give him the opportunity to do it.”
Richards off to a poor start for Marlins
After allowing five runs to the Red Sox in his season debut, Trevor Richards surrendered three runs on six hits in his second start last Sunday versus the Phillies. He walked three, struck out two and will need a good showing if he plans on keeping his spot in Miami’s starting rotation.
Quotable: “More into my routine,” Richards said of his April 8 appearance. “Not as much nerves. The first one was out of the way and I was able to settle a little bit. Came out shaky a little bit early but felt good as I went along.”

Prediction:
The Pirates are pricey but they’re an outstanding bet today. Not only are they hot, they’ve also got their ace on the mound. In Taillon’s last four starts, the Pirates are a perfect 4-0. They’re also 5-1 in his last six road starts and are 6-0 in his last six outings versus the National League East.
The Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates -170
