Graveman off to a rough start for the Oakland A’s
Kendall Graveman allowed five runs over 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Angels on Sunday. Graveman would have had to be near perfect to beat Shohei Ohtani on this day, but he was far from it in a third consecutive disappointing outing to open the year. The right-hander gave up five hits, including a homer, and walked four while striking out just three. He now owns a 9.45 ERA and 1.88 WHIP on the year
Quotable: “We felt good with the guys we brought in the game,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “Just couldn’t close it out.”
Gonzales struggling in his own right
Marco Gonzales was rocked for four earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Royals. Gonzales walked one and gave up eight hits in the ugly outing at Kauffman Stadium. The 26-year-old left-hander worked into the seventh inning in his season debut against the Giants, inducing a ton of groundball outs, but he now has a 7.27 ERA and 1.73 WHIP — ugly numbers.
Quotable: “I’m excited at some point, hopefully here, maybe by the end of this homestand, we’ll be close to getting our full squad of the position group out there,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A’s are 1-6 in Graveman’s last seven starts against the Mariners, are 1-9 in their last 10 games versus the M’s overall, and are winless at 0-5 in their last five games in Seattle.
Seattle
The Mariners have won four of their last five games overall but are just 4-9 in their last 13 divisional contests.
Prediction:
Given the A’s struggles with the Mariners in Seattle, the M’s aren’t a bad bet on the money line. That said, with Graveman and Gonzales pitching for their respective teams tonight, I like the over much better than any side. The over is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams and both pitchers are extremely hittable.
The Pick: A’s/Mariners over 8.5
