Colorado Rockies Fantasy Spin
Daniel Murphy (finger) was informed Thursday that he will not require surgery to repair his broken index finger. Murphy visited a hand specialist on Thursday, who told him that he’s healing well and will not require an operation, though he may need to be fitted for a new splint. While there is still no clear timetable for his potential return, this is definitely a positive development. The Rockies will continue to mix and match at first base while Murphy is on the shelf.
San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Erik Kratz drove in the game-winning run on Friday to give the Giants a 3-2 victory in 18 innings over the Rockies. If you liked offense, you likely went to bed well before this game finished. You might have gone to bed before this one finished, anyway. Kratz drove in the winning run by grounding into a fielder’s choice in the 18th with Ian Desmond unable to get enough on a throw after making a diving stop. He went 0-for-6 on the game with the RBI, and is hitting .105 to begin his time with the Giants. Not much more to be said about this one.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies have won 23 of Kyle Freeland’s last 31 starts overall.
San Francisco
The Giants are winless in Madison Bumgarner’s last five starts.
Prediction:
These two teams stink for different reasons. The Rockies’ IL list looks like an All-Star team and the Giants are in the midst of a re-tool that will eventually turn into a full rebuild at some point. Colorado also struggles to hit away from Coors Field and while Bumgarner isn’t the elite starter he was just a few years ago, he’s still very good. Even though the total gives us little room for error, I’m still taking the under in a matchup of two light-hitting clubs.
The Pick: Rockies/Giants UNDER 7
