Boston leading the AL
The Red Sox are off to the best start in the American League, posting a 10-2 record through 12 games. Boston is both 5-1 at home and on the road. The Sox are coming off a series win at home over the Yankees that turned a little physical. One bit of bad news is Hanley Ramirez left their last game with a wrist injury and his status for tonight is unknown. Team Sox already have Xander Bogaerts and Dustin Pedrioa on the DL.
Eduardo Rodriguez is getting the start on the mound for the Red Sox today. He has just one start, which was a struggle against the Rays. He allowed three runs over 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. He is an outcast in the pitching rotation, as Boston is giving up just 3.33 runs per game this season.
Tillman struggling for Orioles
Baltimore sends Chris Tillman to the mound tonight and he is off to a rough start in 2018. In his two starts, Tillman has allowed nine runs and 15 hits over 9.1 innings. He has eight walks with just three strikeouts. His WHIP currently sits at 2.46.
In general, the Orioles are coming off a series loss at home to the Blue Jays to fall to 5-8 on the season. Baltimore is averaging 3.38 runs per game while allowing 5.08 per contest right now. The Orioles haven’t had Mark Trumbo in the lineup yet, as he is on the DL with a quad strain. Colby Rasmus is also on the DL while Trey Mancini is dealing with a hand injury and questionable to play today.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are just 1-7 in Tillman’s last eight road starts and the team is 2-11 in their last 13 games following a win. Baltimore is also 2-6 in their last eight games against a left-handed starter.
Boston
The Red Sox are actually 9-3 in Rodriguez’ last 12 home start and they also are 14-5 in their last 19 Friday games. Boston also is 18-6 in its last 24 games against American League East opponents.
Prediction:
The Red Sox certainly look good, but I worry about their injuries piling up and Rodriguez has been one of the few pitchers that hasn’t looked good. However, Tillman has been a mess and is putting on more than two baserunners per inning. That is likely going to lead to a big inning for Boston at home.
The Pick: Boston Red Sox -215
