Los Angeles Dodgers Fantasy Spin
Dodgers placed C Russell Martin on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation. Martin gets placed on the injured list, and Rocky Gale gets the call to serve as the backup to Austin Barnes. The veteran backstop has five hits in his first 15 at-bats this year, and should return to being an option off the bench by the end of April.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Cardinals signed 3B Matt Carpenter to a two-year, $39 million contract extension with an $18.5 million vesting option for 2022. There is a $2.5 million buyout on the vesting option. Carpenter was in the final guaranteed year of the six-year, $52 million deal he signed in 2014, which included an $18.5 million team option for 2020. He’s coming off a 2018 in which he posted an .897 OPS with a career-high 36 homers over 156 games. It appears this deal will allow Carpenter to finish his career with the Cardinals. Top prospect Nolan Gorman should be ready to take over at third base eventually.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are a perfect 4-0 in Walker Buehler’s last four starts.
St. Louis
The Cardinals have lost all four of Michael Wacha’s last four outings.
Prediction:
The Dodgers left their bats back in Denver when they made the trip to the Midwest. The Cardinals hadn’t received great pitching from their starters or their pen coming into this series but their entire staff has been lights out against one of the best offenses in baseball. Even though the Cardinals have not been profitable with Wacha on the mound and the Dodgers have with Buehler, the value is too good to pass on the underdog here.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals +127
