Aaron Judge only bright spot in Yankees’ ugly loss Tuesday
Aaron Judge singled twice and blasted a solo home run in Tuesday’s 14-1 loss to the Red Sox. He was 0-for-12 with 10 strikeouts against Chris Sale entering the night but finished 3-for-3 versus the left-hander last night. He supplied the Yankees with their only run as Luis Severino was blasted for five runs over five innings of work on the mound.
Masahiro Tanaka will attempt to pick up the pieces tonight for the Yankees. He allowed three runs, all in the seventh inning while striking out seven over 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Orioles last Thursday. He held Baltimore scoreless on just three hits without issuing a walk but a Jonathan Schoop single followed by an Adam Jones two-run home run in the seventh did the 29-year-old Tanaka in. He will carry a 2.92 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP into tonight’s matchup against the Red Sox.
Red Sox will not have Benintendi for Wednesday night
Andrew Benintendi is out for the Red Sox’ lineup for Wednesday night. He went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Tuesday’s blowout victory but he’ll sit against Tanaka. J.D. Martinez is in left field while Mitch Moreland at first base.
Boston will counter with Price tonight. He allowed just three hits over seven shutout frames last Thursday in the Red Sox’ extra-innings win over the Rays. He struck out seven, walked three while throwing 56 of his 91 pitches for strikes. Boston will look to supply Price with more run support tonight than they did for him last week.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are just 1-4 in their last five meetings with the Red Sox in Boston.
Boston
The Red Sox are 8-2 in Price’s last 10 home starts and have won five of his last seven starts overall.
Prediction:
Price pitched eight innings of shutout ball last July against the Yankees and has looked great in his first two outings of the season. The problem for Price is that before that outing last July, he had been awful against the Bombers. And despite the struggles of the Yankees’ lineup, they still have more firepower than what the Rays have, which is whom Price faced in his first two starts this season.
Meanwhile, Tanaka is 6-2 with a 3.44 ERA and a .208 batting average against in 11 starts against the Red Sox over the last three years. He owns an even better ERA pitching at Fenway, posting a 2.45 mark in his last five starts in Boston. I’ll take the Yankees to rebound.
The Pick: New York Yankees -102
