MLB FREE PICK: Take Chicago. According to latest MLB trends, Chicago White Sox are 4-1 in their last 5 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game, 20-8 in their last 28 interleague road games vs. a right handed starter, 31-14 in their last 45 interleague games vs. a right-handed starter and 4-1 in Axelrod’s last 5 starts as an underdog.
The rubber game of this series goes on Thursday where the Chicago White Sox (4-4, 2-6 O/U) look to save face after losing the first two. The Washington Nationals (6-2, 4-3 O/U) have won three of their last four after struggling against the Cincinnati Reds. The Nats send Dan Haren (0-1, 13.50) to the mound against Dylan Axelrod (0-0, 0.00). Haren struggled in his debut with the Nationals, as he was pummeled for six runs on nine hits in four innings against the Reds. Axelrod did not allow a run in 5 2/3 innings against Seattle in a 4-3 win where he got a no-decision. This is his first time facing the Nationals or any of their batters. That’s a good thing since they really don’t know what to expect and Chicago could use a decent start since they’ve allowed 13 runs in the first two games of the series. They entered the series with the best ERA in the American League but Gavin Floyd and Jake Peavy struggled. They produced nine but they were going up against two of their best three starters in Jordan Zimmermann and Gio Gonzalez. Alex Rios leads the White Sox with a .419 average with four homers. Expect the White Sox to save the series with a solid performance from Axelrod.
