CURRENT ODDS
According to oddsmakers from online sports book YouWager, the Astros are -275 moneyline favorites to beat the Padres, who have +225 money line odds to pull off the upset tonight in Houston. The total, meanwhile, sits at 8 runs.
LINE MOVEMENT
The Astros opened as -270 money line favorites but their odds have only grown, jumping to -275 at the majority of online sportsbooks. On the other side, the Padres’ odds have stayed steady at +225. The total, meanwhile, hit the board at 8.5 but was bet down to 8.
PUBLIC BETTING INFORMATION
As of this writing, 86% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Cubs to beat the Brewers on the money line. Meanwhile, 59% of the betting tickets are on the over.
OUR PREDICTION
I don’t care how big a public favorite the Astros are: They’re not losing tonight. The only problem is that they’re laying -275 on the money line and it’s not wise to lay most of your bankroll on an April MLB game so we’re just going to have to trust that the Astros will get it done on the runline tonight. Houston was shut down last night by Luis Perdomo but I don’t envision Mitchell having that type of success. A lineup that features George Springer, Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa will not be shut down two nights in a row by San Diego pitching.
On the other side, Cole did have some issues last season with left-handers that took him deep. Eric Hosmer and Cory Spangenberg might cause Cole some problems but again, I can’t see the Astros getting shut down two nights in a row so even if Cole gets touched up a little, I see Houston winning by two-plus runs.
SATURDAY MLB PREDICTION: HOUSTON ASTROS -1.5
