San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Manny Machado went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and two walks in a 4-1 victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Machado blistered a Matt Andriese pitch over the left-field wall in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 4-0. It’s the first homer in the regular season in a San Diego uniform for Machado, who came to the Padres after signing a 10-year, $300 million contract late this winter. He’s now hitting .240/.321/.360 over the first six games of the 2019 campaign. Those numbers are certain to go up in the coming weeks, if not days.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Marcell Ozuna (side) will undergo an MRI on Thursday in St. Louis. Cardinals manager Mike Shildt notes that there’s concern that Ozuna has an intercostal strain. The outfielder was a late scratch from the lineup Wednesday in Pittsburgh with what was described as “side tightness,” with Jose Martinez taking his place in left field. We should know more on Ozuna’s status after the MRI on Thursday. It sounds like a trip to the injured list is a definite possibility.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres have dropped 46 of the last 64 meetings with the Cardinals in St. Louis.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are just 1-4 in their last five games versus the Padres overall.
Prediction:
The Cardinals have been great against the Padres when San Diego comes to St. Louis but the Redbirds’ moneyline price is too expensive. The under, however, has been profitable when these two teams meet and it offers better value. In the last five meetings between these two teams, the under is a perfect 5-0. In the last five meetings at Busch Stadium, the under is 4-0-1. The ball doesn’t fly out of the park in St. Louis, especially with the colder temperatures. I’m expecting a pitcher’s duel this afternoon.
The Pick: Padres/Cardinals under 7.5
