Location: Marlins Park – Miami, Florida
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 76 degrees, 11mph winds
Time: 7:10PM ET
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Boston is favored in this game, as the Red Sox are getting odds of -135 to win against Miami. The Marlins are getting a money line of +125 to prevail. The over/under total is currently listed at 9 runs.
Today’s pitching matchup features Brian Johnson on the mound for the Red Sox to face Trevor Richards of the Marlins. Johnson has started just six games in his career, five coming last year. In 2017 he was 2-0 with a 4.33 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. Johnson has 24 strikeouts with 12 walks in his career. Richards is making his MLB debut tonight.
PUBLIC BETTING INFORMATION
The public betting for this game is backing Boston. The Red Sox are getting 70 percent of the wagers as a road favorite against the Marlins.
Neither team has any new players listed on the injury report for today’s contest.
Boston opened its series with a four-game series win over the Rays in Tampa, going 3-1. The Red Sox scored 10 runs over the four games and allowed nine, but gave up just three over the final three games. Xander Bogaerts is leading the Red Sox so far with eight hits, five doubles, four runs, a home run and two RBI. Rafael Devers has driven in four runs as well.
Miami split four games at home with the Cubs this weekend. The Marlins scored 18 runs over the four games while allowing 19. The Marlins are being led by Brian Anderson thus far. He has six hits, three runs and five RBI. Derek Dietrich has the lone Marlins home run and has driven in three runs.
These two haven’t met since 2015 and it’s hard to see the Marlins beating the Red Sox consistently on paper. We don’t know what to expect from Richards on the mound, but sometimes that can work to a team’s advantage. Boston won’t have much tape on him to study. Still, the Red Sox have the better lineup and the stronger bullpen. The Boston hitters should be able to get to the rookie while Johnson and the pen keep Miami somewhat in check.
MLB PREDICTIONS: BOSTON RED SOX -135
