BETTING STRATEGIES
The Pirates took the first game of the series, 13-10 in 13 innings on Friday. It was quite a game, as the Pirates trailed 6-4 entering the eighth, but scored a pair of runs in the top of the inning and then scored four in the ninth, only to see the Tigers put up four in the bottom of the ninth. The Tigers initially won the game 11-10 in nine inning, but the game-winning run ruling was reversed by instant replay, sending the contest to extra innings. Gregory Polanco hit a three-run home run in the 13th inning to propel the Pirates to the win.
Neither bullpen looked terribly great as the Pirates allowed eight runs over eight innings of relief and the Tigers gave up nine runs over seven innings of relief. Polanco finished with three hits and four RBI to lead the Pirates while Josh Bell and Francisco Cervelli each drove in three. Dixon Machado led the Tigers by driving in three while Miguel Cabrera had two hits and drove in two runs.
With both teams eating up their bullpens in Friday’s first game of the series, they are going to need their starters to go deep today due to Sunday being a doubleheader. I can see Fulmer doing that, as he has a history of logging big innings. However, I don’t see Williams being able to do the same. An early exit will likely lead to a big explosion at the plate for the Tigers.
