MLB Predictions: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Detroit Tigers 4/1/18

After another rainout on Saturday, will the Detroit Tigers rebound on Easter Sunday when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:10PM ET?

Location: Comerica Park - Detroit, Michigan

According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Detroit is favored in this game, as the Tigers are getting odds of -120 to win against Pittsburgh. The Pirates are getting a money line of +100 to prevail. The over/under total is currently listed at 8.5 runs.

The pitching matchup today has Michael Fulmer on the mound for the Tigers to face Trevor Williams of the Pirates. Fulmer was 10-12 last season with a 3.83 ERA over 25 starts. He had 114 strikeouts with 40 walks. Williams was 7-9 last season over 25 starts. He posted a 4.07 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP. Williams had 117 strikeouts with 52 walks.

Bet on MLB for Sunday, April 1, 2018

The public is backing the Tigers today. Detroit is currently getting 76 percent of the wagers for this game as the home favorite against Pittsburgh.

Neither team has anyone new players listed on the injury report for today’s game.

The Pirates took the first game of the series, 13-10 in 13 innings on Friday. It was quite a game, as the Pirates trailed 6-4 entering the eighth, but scored a pair of runs in the top of the inning and then scored four in the ninth, only to see the Tigers put up four in the bottom of the ninth. The Tigers initially won the game 11-10 in nine inning, but the game-winning run ruling was reversed by instant replay, sending the contest to extra innings. Gregory Polanco hit a three-run home run in the 13th inning to propel the Pirates to the win.

Neither bullpen looked terribly great as the Pirates allowed eight runs over eight innings of relief and the Tigers gave up nine runs over seven innings of relief. Polanco finished with three hits and four RBI to lead the Pirates while Josh Bell and Francisco Cervelli each drove in three. Dixon Machado led the Tigers by driving in three while Miguel Cabrera had two hits and drove in two runs.

With both teams eating up their bullpens in Friday’s first game of the series, they are going to need their starters to go deep today due to Sunday being a doubleheader. I can see Fulmer doing that, as he has a history of logging big innings. However, I don’t see Williams being able to do the same. An early exit will likely lead to a big explosion at the plate for the Tigers.
