San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Yangervis Solarte started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead the Giants to a 3-2 win over the division-rival Padres on Saturday. Solarte broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double to right field off Padres’ reliever Robert Stock in the sixth inning. He also came around to score on a base-hit by Evan Longoria later in the frame. The 31-year-old veteran appears to be locked into the second slot in the Giants’ lineup, which makes him an appealing middle infield option in deeper mixed leagues.
San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Eric Hosmer went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the Padres’ loss to the Giants on Saturday. Hosmer plated the lone Padres’ runs of the contest with a two-run double off Giants’ reliever Travis Bergen in the sixth inning. He also singled twice in the contest. The multi-hit effort raises his average to .300 (3-for-10) through three games. It’s early, but it’s looking extremely likely that Hosmer will rebound after a disappointing debut in San Diego last year.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants have struggled versus the Padres, even though they posted a victory Saturday night in San Diego. San Francisco is just 2-5 in its last seven meetings with the Padres.
San Diego
The Padres have won five of seven dating back to last season.
Prediction:
These two teams couldn’t hit themselves out of a wet paper bag but if one of the games is going to go over the total in this series, I like this one. Jeff Samardzija sat out most of last season due to a shoulder injury and he has not been good in a San Francisco uniform. Whether it coms to his ERA, his strikeout rate, his walk rate, his hard hit rate or anything else, Samardzija has been below-average across the board. The total for today’s game is sitting at 7.5 because of these poor offenses. But the low total also offers us value given who is on the mound today at Petco.
The Pick: Giants/Padres over 7.5
