Saturday, March 31, 2018
Location: Tropicana Field – St. Petersburg, Florida
Time: 6:10PM ET
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Boston is favored in this game, as the Red Sox are getting odds of -170 to win against Tampa Bay. The Rays are getting a money line of +150 to prevail. The over/under total is currently listed at 8.5 runs.
Today’s pitching matchup features Rick Porcello on the mound for the Red Sox. Tampa Bay will counter with Andrew Kittredge. Porcello was the 2016 Cy Young winner, but struggled in 2017. He was 11-17 with a 4.65 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Porcello had 48 walks and 181 strikeouts. Kittredge is getting the first start of his career today. He pitched 15 innings last year in relief and had a 1.76 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP.
PUBLIC BETTING INFORMATION
The public betting for this game was unavailable as of this writing.
Boston has second baseman Dustin Pedroia out until late May with a knee injury. Pedroia appeared in 105 games last season and hit .293 with 62 RBI. Tampa Bay doesn’t have anyone new listed on the injury report for today’s contest.
After Tampa Bay picked up a 6-4 win over Boston on Thursday, the Red Sox countered on Friday with a 1-0 victory. Thursday’s game featured some great pitching. David Price went seven innings and allowed just four hits and no walks with five strikeouts to get the win. Craig Kimbrell struck out the side in the ninth to earn his first save.
Blake Snell pitched 5.2 innings for the Rays and allowed just three hits. Chaz Roe gave up the lone run of the game in the seventh as Rafael Devers had a RBI single for the Red Sox.
Boston continues to have the better pitching taking the mound today. Though Porcello struggled last year, he still has Cy Young ability in him. Kittredge is making his first-ever MLB start and that has to be nerve-wracking for him. It’s a tough draw to face this Boston lineup as well, which is set to explode any day now.
