Arizona Diamondbacks Fantasy Spin
Robbie Ray racked up 11 strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings of work in a Cactus League start against the Giants on Saturday. Ray surrendered two runs on five hits and only walked a pair of batters. A two-run single by Giants’ second baseman Joe Panik in the fourth inning represented the only damage against him in this one. The mercurial 27-year-old lefty has looked outstanding this spring, giving up only eight runs (seven earned) on 14 hits with an absurd 32 strikeouts and eight walks over 16 1/3 innings this spring. He’s the favorite to start the Diamondbacks second game of the year against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Friday.
Los Angeles Dodgers Fantasy Spin
Ross Stripling pitched well in his final spring tune-up on Sunday, allowing one run on three hits over three innings against the Angels. Stripling walked one and didn’t strike out a batter in the contest. The only blemish on his night came on an RBI double by Mike Trout in the third inning. Stripling finishes the spring with a 2.76 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings. With Rich Hill and Clayton Kershaw sidelined, Stripling will have the opportunity to begin the season in the Dodgers’ rotation.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 2-5 in their last seven games versus the Dodgers and are 16-37 in their last 53 games in L.A.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers have won five of Stripling’s last seven home starts dating back to last season.
Prediction:
I’m not going to let the slugging display that the Dodgers put on last night scare me off the under tonight. Ray was dominant this spring, strikeout out 32 batters over just 16 1/3 innings. He also posted a strikeout rate higher than 31% in back-to-back years so even though Los Angeles’ lineup is potent, I like Ray to keep them somewhat in check tonight. On the other side, Stripling will face a bad Arizona offense that no longer can lean on Paul Goldschmidt. They managed five runs last night but I don’t see them having duplicate success tonight.
The Pick: Diamondbacks/Dodgers under 7
