OUR PREDICTION
Martinez finished the 2017 season with a 25% strikeout rate and an 11% swinging strike rate and should pop up in Cy Young talks throughout the season. That said, he also struggled to find his command in spring training and the long ball was a problem for him at times last year. Meanwhile, Syndergaard is as nasty as they come but he struggled to stay healthy a year ago. The Cardinals do a nice job of limiting strikeouts and they now have a legitimate cleanup hitter in Marcell Ozuna, who was acquired from the Marlins this offseason. All of this is to say that I believe this game will be surprisingly high-scoring. Maybe not an 8-7 barnburner, but 5-3 gets the job done with the over.
