Harvey targeting August return
NEW YORK, NY (The Spread) – Matt Harvey said on Tuesday that he’d like to pitch again for the Mets in August.
The August return date would be just 10 months removed from when Harvey had Tommy John surgery on his elbow. He has maintained that he wants to pitch for the Mets at some point this season and he feels confident that he will.
“I’d like to be prepared that, in my mind, if I can come back in August I haven’t missed five or sixth months of baseball and try to come back and jump right back into the picture,” Harvey told the media this week.
Harvey continues to throw on flat ground at 60 feet and will advance to 75 feet later this week. According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Mets are 75/1 to win the 2014 World Series and 33/1 to win the NL pennant. They’re also +1600 to win the NL East, putting them behind the Nationals (-110), Braves (+140) and Phillies (+750).
The Mets signed veteran starter Bartolo Colon this offseason to go along with Jon Niese (photo), youngster Zack Wheeler and Dillon Gee. They also added outfielder Curtis Granderson and Chris Young to bolster a lineup that features MVP-caliber star David Wright.
