Will Braves come back in the East?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) - The Braves are starting to turn things around again and are now 7/1 to win the NL East. Is there any value in betting Atlanta to win the division?
The Braves sit at 68-62 on the season and are currently seven games back of the NL East-leading Washington Nationals. The Braves have some work to do if they plan on catching the Nationals with just 30+ games left in the regular season.
The Braves have won eight of their last ten and have two more shots at Washington coming up in their schedule. The rest of the Braves schedule has them facing the weaker teams in the NL East plus the ugly Rangers on the road. There is value on making a play on the Braves at this point but it's far from a sure thing.
The Nationals have won nine of their last ten and have the second largest lead in MLB. The Nationals' remaining schedule looks fairly soft on paper. The Nationals and Braves square off in two mores series in the beginning and middle of September. Barring an epic meltdown from the Nationals and getting swept by the Braves in the last part of the season, it's hard not to think the NL East race doesn't go to the Nationals.
The Braves' remaining schedule will be tougher than it looks on paper due to the fact some of these teams consider themselves in contention and won't just back down. The Braves should snag the series with Texas but other than that there's no sure thing. I say make a play on the Braves if you are looking for a gamble, but otherwise keep your money in your pocket on the NL East race.
