Can Spieth win the grand slam?
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – Jordan Spieth is halfway to the grand slam of golf after his win in the U.S. Open on Sunday. Can Spieth win the next two majors of 2015?
According to the latest oddsmakers, Spieth is currently listed at +2500 to complete the grand slam of golf. His odds to win one of the next two major championships is listed at +275.
The grand slam of golf means winning all four major championships in one year. The four majors are The Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship. Spieth won the Masters by four shots on the field in April. On Sunday, Spieth won the U.S. Open with a 1-shot victory at Chambers Bay.
Spieth has never won the British Open or PGA Championship, competed in both two times each. He finished 44th in the 2013 British Open and 36th in the 2014 British Open. He has failed to make the cut in the 2013 and 2014 PGA Championship.
Five men have won the first two majors in a year. Those men are Craig Wood, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. Only one of them, Hogan, was able to claim the British Open as well, which was in 1953. No golfer has ever won all four tournaments in the same year.
