Zurich Classic Predictions
In a change of pace from its usual individual format, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans takes place this weekend, featuring teams of two. Here’s some teams we think can contend for the victory.
The Zurich Classic features two golfers playing together with the first and third rounds being in alternate shot and the second and fourth rounds being played in better ball format. The low score over the four days wins. According to the latest oddsmakers, the team of Jason Day and Adam Scott are the favorites with 7/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood (8/1) and Patrick Reed and Patrick Cantlay (12/1). The 2019 Zurich Classic of New Orleans takes place Thursday-Sunday from TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana.
1001 Sergio Garcia/Tommy Fleetwood 8/1
Garcia and Fleetwood are an intriguing team this week as both are veterans of Ryder Cup play and both have been very successful in these two styles of golf. Fleetwood was phenomenal in the 2018 Ryder Cup while Garcia has had plenty of great moments in team competition before. Aside from the Masters, Garcia has been playing pretty well in 2019, posting five top-10 finishes already. Fleetwood has yet to miss a cut this year and is just a steady player.
1005 Billy Horschel/Scott Piercy 16/1
Horschel and Piercy won this tournament last year and I think that will give them plenty of confidence this weekend. Being comfortable and confident in your playing partner has a lot to do with winning this event and these two already know they cater to each other’s game well. Horschel also won this event when it was an individual tournament back in 2013, so he has plenty of success in New Orleans. Piercy is also coming off a third-place finish last weekend in the RBC Heritage.
1008 Tony Finau/Kyle Stanley 20/1
Finau and Stanley are a team I think has some real value. Finau is coming off another strong outing in Augusta, finishing fifth. Stanley had a rough start to 2019, but he has started to turn the corner by making his last three cuts. He finished 21st at The Masters, which was his best finish of the year. Finau is a really calm player that has the ability to make some big shots. His demeanor will be helpful for Stanley, who shouldn’t feel too much pressure and can play loose.
