WGC-Dell Match Play Odds
Sixty four of the top golfers in the world are set to battle it out this week in the WGC-Dell Match Play event. Here’s a look at the odds to win the tournament.
This event is a match-play event with 64 players and the field being put into 16 groups of four. Those four play round-robin matches on Wednesday through Friday. The winners of each group advance to a single-elimination tournament. Saturday features the first two round of the tournament and Sunday holds the semifinals and finals.
According to oddsmkers from Bovada.lv, Jason Day is the favorite, as he has 10/1 odds to win. Other golfers with short odds are Rory McIlroy (11/1), Adam Scott (12/1) and Jordan Spieth (12/1). The Dell Match Play takes place at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas and runs from Wednesday through Sunday.
Day won this event back in 2014. He is second in the world rankings and coming off a win this past weekend in the Arnold Palmer Invite.
McIlroy is the defending champion and the first two win under the new format. He is third in the current world rankings but is seeking his first win of the new year.
Scott is sixth in the world rankings and having a great 2016, where he has two wins and a runner-up finish. Scott didn’t reach the tournament format of this event last year.
Spieth is the No. 1 player in the world rankings, but he has finished outside the top 10 in four straight events. He still does have a win in 2016 and has won six tournaments since the start of 2015. He finished outside the 16-man tournament in this event last year.
