Northern Trust Open Free Picks
PACIFIC PALISADES, CA (The Spread) – Here’s a list of contenders that we believe will challenge for victory this weekend in the 2014 Northern Trust Open.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Dustin Johnson is a 14/1 favorite to win the Northern Trust Open this weekend. Hunter Mahan, Jimmy Walker, Jordan Spieth and Webb Simpson are all 18/1, respectively, while Justin Rose is 20/1 and Graham Delaet and Matt Kuchar are 22/1, respectively. Bill Haas, Bubba Watson, Hideki Matsuyama and Keegan Bradley are all 28/1, respectively.
Here are our predictions for this weekend’s events.
Webb Simpson (18/1)
Simpson has only played in the Northern Trust Open twice but his two finishes were solid. He was T15 in 2010 and T6 last year, which was a career-best score. He’s also the all-time scoring leader at Riviera, averaging a 69.0 in his eight rounds there.
Hunter Mahan (18/1)
Mahan finished T8 at the Northern Trust Open last year and is coming off his second top-10 in a row. He’s currently outside the top nine in Ryder Cup points but a couple of good finishes over the next five weeks would go a long way and we think he’ll finish in the top 5 this weekend.
Live Long Shot:
Jacobson finished T3 in last year’s Northern Trust Open but was tied with Sang-Moon Bae following the second round. Thus, he’s already had recent success here and at 100/1, he holds great value for this year’s tournament.
